The prestigious international ophthalmologist panel has chosen Doctor Lucia Lee Ferraro, co-researcher for international clinical trials and European research projects, as the new Chair of the entity
Doctor Lucia Lee Ferraro, an ophthalmologist specialising in macula and vitreoretinal disorders at the Institut de la Màcula, has been appointed Chair of the Intravitreal Expert Group (IVEG), a panel of top-tier international ophthalmology experts that was founded 7 years ago with the aim of improving patient care through sharing the experience of professionals from around the globe.
Ferraro will be responsible for promoting initiatives of interest that facilitate contact and the sharing of information by combining content and technology with tools such as master classes, whiteboards, debates and interviews.
An IVEG team recently visited the Institut de la Màcula and recorded a video about the diagnosis of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). This video also featured the Director of the Institut de la Màcula, Dr. Jordi Monés MD, PhD, one of the world's foremost specialists in AMD and a macula and vitreoretinal researcher. The recording forms part of a cycle that began in 2018.
According to Doctor Ferraro “it's vital to have a place where high quality information is available and be able to follow expert advice. It's not only useful for improving medical practice but is also very inspiring for any professional and particularly younger ones”.
Lucia Lee Ferraro graduated in Medicine and Surgery from Palermo University (Italy) and specialised in ophthalmology at the Paolo Giaccone University Hospital. She then moved to Barcelona for a fellowship in medical and surgical retina at Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona. She is also a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) and a member of the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA).
Doctor Ferraro is a co-researcher for international clinical trials and European research projects, both by the Institut de la Màcula and also the Barcelona Macula Foundation, such as the OPH2005, LUCERNE and RHINE projects.
